Photo review of 2013 US Open of Surfing
This is the third year I covered this event, hope you enjoy this photo review of the 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing. The main sponsor changed from Nike to Vans which brought change to the venues in the festival village.
The lead up to the event is alway interesting. The building of the festival village usually starts weeks in advance. I try to go at least once to photograph the build up. You can see a sample of that in the first photo below. By the start of the event, the entire south side of the pier in Huntington Beach is ready for the thousands of visitors from around the world.
Kelly Slater, Tatiana Weston-Webb and Alana Blanchard were just a few of the pro surfers in attendance. There were so many highlights during the event. For example, Alana Blanchard coming out from her heat while hundreds of fans waiting for her at the beach. Security had to be called to help her safely come in! You can see those photos below as well.
Meanwhile at the Festival Village, there were so many sponsors booths, from mechanical bull riding to skateboarding. Honestly, I didn’t expect a mechanical bull at this event, but it was there.
